Simcenter FLOEFD is an award-winning frontloading CFD solution built into major MCAD systems such as Creo, CATIA V5, Siemens NX, Solid Edge and SolidWorks. Fully embedded in the PLM design environment, and with its unique automation technologies, Simcenter FLOEFD helps engineers to both frontload CFD and carry out parametric studies throughout the complete manufacturing processes. Simcenter FLOEFD can help reduce the overall simulation time by as much as 75% and enhance productivity by up to 40x.
Frontloading refers to the practice of moving CFD simulation early into the design process where it can help engineers examine trends and eliminate fewer desirable options, as well as reduce overall simulation workflow time by as much as 75%. Advantages of having frontload CFD simulations are:
The benefits of this are that there is no translation or definitions of regions within a cad model. Any cad design changes are instantly reflected in the cfd analysis. Synchronisation of cad and cfd becomes a non-issue.
FloEFD's meshing technology is fully automatic and can efficiently handle complex or "dirty" geometry. It uses a fully Cartesian grid methodology with octree refinement, ensuring that small features are captured with the necessary resolution. Automatic refinement and unrefinement allow all intricacies of the flow to be resolved adequately, while still maintaining acceptable solution times. Thanks to this technology, there is no need for manual mesh generation or CFD meshing expertise— even novice users can obtain accurate, mesh-independent results on their first attempt.
Simcenter floefd uses a modified k-epsilon 2 equation model for solving turbulence. We have 1 turbulence model which has been benchmarked and validated across the full range of reynolds numbers. Floefd allows for a proprietary turbulence model which solves laminar, transitional and turbulent flow with a single solver. The benefits of this are that we do not need to choose the turbulence model or know anything about the expected flow regime to get a correct answer. Another pitfall is removed from the process. This results in shortened setup times and minimal requirement for specialist turbulence knowledge.
Due to the parametric nature of modern cad software, a single assembly can be used to drive many different configurations with differing parts or constraints. Simcenter floefd can leverage this parametric configuration capability and tag a cfd project onto each configuration automatically. This means that a simcenter floefd project only needs to setup once and then simply cloned onto subsequent configurations. All setup information persists between projects. Batch running also allows for sequential solving of all configurations.
The Simcenter FLOEFD HVAC mod-ule provides additional capabilities for design engineers who conduct analysis in support of heating, air conditioning and ventilation (HVAC) applications, such as:
To assess the thermal comfort of an occupant and the efficiency of the ventilation system, the following com-fort parameters are offered with the HVAC module:
The Simcenter FLOEFD LED module provides an important set of analysis capabilities for lighting engineers and designers.
The Simcenter FLOEFD Advanced module provides additional capabilities for special analyses. It enables you to create more realistic simulations and obtain more accurate results, access more functionalities in the areas of combustion and hypersonic analysis and work on your preferred CAD platform.
The Simcenter FLOEFD Advanced module can be used to account for the thermal effects of combustion of gas-phase mixtures. The equilibrium approach is used for non-premixed combustion (combustion starts immediately and rapidly upon mixing). A limited combustion rate exists for premixed combustion that requires an igniter to start the combustion. There are 26 fuels and five predefined oxidizers.
The Simcenter FLOEFD Electronics Cooling module enables you to accu-rately predict thermal behavior of electronic devices with compact mod-els, validate electronics cooling system performance to achieve long product life, efficiently explore methods for cooling electronic devices and enable joule heating analysis in complex electronic assemblies.
The Simcenter FLOEFD Electronics Cooling module provides additional capabilities for the analysis of electronic devices. The physical capabilities in Simcenter FLOEFD Electronics Cooling include:
Simcenter™ FLOEFD™ software, EDA Bridge module provides capabilities for detailed import of printed circuit boards (PCBs) into your mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) tool of choice in preparation for thermal analysis. Historically, the best way to access PCB data was to use Intermediate Data Format (IDF) file pairs, which have signif-icant shortcomings, especially regarding the copper geometry in the PCB.
The Simcenter FLOEFD EDA Bridge enables detailed PCB import with material and integrated circuit (IC) thermal properties into Simcenter FLOEFD for thermal analysis either on its own, or as part of a larger system-level assembly.
Simcenter FLOEFD Power electrification module provides more accurate battery cell modeling. The battery compact model in the power electrification module calculates the heat dissipation rate based on the electrical or electrical-chemical characteristics of battery cells. The two new models are:
In both models, the obtained heat dissipation rate is applied to the battery cell. The state of charge, voltage, cur-rent and temperature distribution in the battery cell is then predicted. Liquid cooling electrical battery of 40 cells
